When we arrived at The Attalos Hotel, I was a little disappointed because it didn't at all look like the photograph on the website. Lol. Fortunately the interiors were nice and the disappointment just faded away. This is a very recommended place to stay as it is comfy and near to the Monastiraki Station which is the Metro station and the Monastiraki Flea Market as well as Plaka, all the restaurants, the shopping area, Syntagma and the Acropolis. The advantage of it is that it has a rooftop bar that has a great view of the Acropolis. Sadly, my camera cannot get a great shot of the magnificent view. :( *sobs*. I am still gonna try to take a good shot!
We visited Central Market because Edmund said there was food there, something like London Borough Market or Queen Victoria Market. Guess what, it was partially like Queen Victoria Market, it had food alright. All the raw meat! So much for hoping to get lunch there. Lol. We then made our way to the National Gardens, and we wanted to look for the Temple of Zeus but we couldn't find it. Everywhere was surrounded by orange trees and I am very tempted to pluck. I've still not plucked one yet because there were police everywhere especially around the National Gardens, probably because some VIP lives there. It was very well guarded. There were armies, cops and guards. The Monastiraki Flea Market was nice with lotsa things to buy (something like Petaling Street market). Syntagma was just a building, nothing to see but we did go there to check out the 24 hours bus that we're gonna take to get to the airport for our flight to Santorini.
Day 2 - We checked the weather forecast the night before and it reported that it would rain the whole day. Plans for Acropolis had to be moved to Wednesday. We went to the National Archaelogical Museum, Lycabettus Hill and the Olympic Stadium. We also had the Temple of Zeus planned again today. It wasn't a good day though as we were dripping wet all the way up and down Lycabettus Hill and until we decided to get back to the hotel at 4.30 pm. The hill was super far, and super high up and we still managed to walk up in the wind and rain. The view was spectacular from the highest hill in Athens however it would have been better if the sun was out and the sky was blue. The rain got heavier and heavier as we walked towards the Olympic Stadium and worse when we searched for the Temple of Zeus. I asked for directions twice and noone knew what the Temple of Zeus was. *swt* I wonder if Zeus is pronounced in a different way by the Greeks or not. They definitely did not understand English but I'm sure Temple of Zeus isn't that different is it? When we finally found it, the roads were all flooded with 1 feet of water and we could not cross the road to get to the Temple. We decided that we can't take photographs in the heavy rain also so we skipped it. Tomorrow! I was fully drenched with my feet soaking in water and not even an inch of my clothes dry even with an umbrella. Shoes wet, trying to dry em with the hair dryer, been on it for more than an hour! Money all wet, bag all wet. No signs of a fever yet so *fingers crossed*
Photographs? All on Facebook. I might add em here some time later if I'm hardworking. Lol.
Day 3 - The Acropolis, Agora and Temple of Zeus (again).
